GAZ-SYSTEM has finally obtained all necessary building permits for the Baltic Pipe project in Poland

On 22 April of this year the Governor of West Pomerania province issued a building permit for the offshore part of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline in Poland. Thus, GAZ-SYSTEM has completed the permit obtaining stage for the Baltic Pipe project in Poland.

- Being granted this particular permit means to us that GAZ-SYSTEM may launch construction works of all gas pipelines and Baltic Pipe facilities in Poland, both offshore and onshore. A contract for the construction and installation of the offshore gas pipeline will be signed soon- says Tomasz Stępień, President of the Management Board for GAZ-SYSTEM.

The last permit that was issued covers a 56 km long section of offshore gas pipeline with its shore entry point. The gas pipeline will end at what is called the first dry weld, or the point connecting the offshore gas pipeline with the onshore infrastructure.

Part of the gas pipeline under construction will be constructed using the micro tunnelling method, whereby some 600 meters of pipe will be laid under the coastline. Using this method we will leave the sea shore as well as the dune belt and coastal cliff intact.

In November 2019 GAZ-SYSTEM obtained the environmental decision, and at the beginning of January of this year the Governor of West Pomerania province signed the location decision for this gas pipeline. At the beginning of April of this year the company also obtained a building permit for what is called an onshore section of the offshore gas pipeline. All building permits for the onshore section of the Baltic Pipe project in Poland were granted earlier.

GAZ-SYSTEM plays a strategic role in the Polish economy. We are responsible for natural gas transmission and operate the most important gas pipelines in Poland. As part of the 2015-2025 investment programme, GAZ-SYSTEM plans to build over 2000 km of new gas pipelines in western, southern and eastern parts of Poland. Further development of the national transmission network, including the construction of new gas pipelines making part of the North-South Gas Corridor, as well as the construction of interconnections with the neighbouring countries, will strengthen Poland’s energy security and make an important contribution to the development of the European transmission system.

The Company is implementing one of the most important infrastructural projects in Poland – the Baltic Pipe project, which consists in the construction of a bidirectional offshore gas pipeline connecting Poland and Denmark and the expansion of the local transmission network.

GAZ-SYSTEM also owns Polskie LNG, the operator of the President Lech Kaczyński's LNG Terminal in Świnoujście.
