Baltic Pipe: agreements with contractors for the design of Polish gas compressor stations have been signed

GAZ-SYSTEM has signed three agreements with the Biuro Studiów i Projektów Gazownictwa GAZOPROJEKT S.A. for the development of design documentation for gas compressor stations to be constructed in Poland under the Baltic Pipe project.

GAZOPROJEKT has been selected in a tender procedure - the bidders could submit partial tender offers separately for each of the three facilities. In each case, the bids submitted by GAZOPROJEKT S.A. proved to be the best. According to the agreements, the contractor will be obliged to obtain all necessary arrangements, approvals, opinions, permits and decisions. Furthermore, the contractor will exercise the author’s supervision over the investment project implementation.

The venture provides for an expansion of gas compressor stations in Goleniów and Odolanów, along with the system hub and ancillary infrastructure. In addition, the gas transmission hub will be expanded and a new gas compressor station will be built in Gustorzyn. These investment projects are crucial for the effective operation of the Polish transmission system, considering greater volumes of natural gas derived from diversified gas sources, expanded LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, and the construction of the offshore gas pipeline between Denmark and Poland.

To date, under the Baltic Pipe project, GAZ-SYSTEM entered into agreement with Ramboll Denmark A/S for analytic, survey and design works that are necessary to obtain relevant building permits for the offshore Baltic Pipe gas pipeline.

Moreover, the Company announced  a public tender to award the contract for the design of the onshore gas pipeline in Poland, connecting the offshore section of the Baltic Pipe with the national gas transmission system.

  • The Baltic Pipe project, defined on the basis of a feasibility study, consists of five key components:
  • A tie-in pipeline to the Norwegian offshore pipeline in the North Sea to the terminal in Denmark,
  • Increasing the capacity of the Danish onshore transmission system,
  • Gas compressor station in Zealand, Denmark,
  • The offshore interconnecting gas pipeline from Denmark to Poland, along with receiving terminal,
  • Development of the Polish gas transmission system.

GAZ-SYSTEM is a strategic company for the Polish economy. It is responsible for the transmission of natural gas, manages the most important gas pipelines in Poland and owns the President Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal in Świnoujście.

As part of the 2015-2025 investment programme, GAZ-SYSTEM is constructing over 2000 km of new gas pipelines in the western, southern and eastern parts of Poland. Over a dozen new gas pipelines are under construction within the North-South Gas Corridor and the compressor station in Kędzierzyn Koźle, as well as interconnections with Lithuania and Slovakia. Onshore gas pipelines are planned to connect the planned FSRU floating terminal in the Gulf of Gdansk with the national transmission system. The LNG Terminal in Świnoujście is also being extended, as a result of which the regasification capacity of this facility will be increased by more than a half.

The company is also implementing one of the most important infrastructural projects in the country - the Baltic Pipe project which consists in the construction of a two-way offshore gas pipeline connecting Poland and Denmark, expansion of the local transmission network and three gas compressor stations.
