GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. to launch the design work for new pipelines

Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. is about to launch the development of high-pressure 700mm gas pipelines with the operating pressure of 8.4 MPa and a total length of 120 km, embracing the Warsaw agglomeration.

The project includes:
• the construction of a gas pipeline from Rembelszczyzna to Mory (ca. 29 km);
• the construction of a gas pipeline from Mory to Wola Karczewska (ca. 91 km).

The contractor responsible for the project design and implementation and exercising the author's supervision has been selected in a public tender procedure. The agreement to draw up the design and the construction project was concluded on 30 December 2014 with ILF Consulting Engineers Polska Sp. z o.o. as a party.
The contractor is obliged to obtain the decisions on environmental conditions and project location as well as securing a building permit. The design documentation is expected to be completed and the building permit obtained in 2017.
The investment aims to improve the security of gas supplies to customers outside the Warsaw metropolitan area and across the Warsaw region.

In response to the increasing demand for natural gas in the Warsaw agglomeration, it is necessary to extend the system of gas transmission pipelines in the area. Once completed, the new transmission grid will attract new customers from the energy sector and will secure the needs of the growing gas demand in the vicinity of the capital city,” says Jakub Stypuła, Director of Investment Division, GAZ-SYSTEM SA.

The Investment Programme 2015-2023
The pipelines around the Warsaw agglomeration are part of the greater investment plan of GAZ-SYSTEM SA within the EU-endorsed the North-South Gas Corridor that will allow the full integration of the transmission infrastructure in this part of Europe. With this end in view, GAZ-SYSTEM SA aspires to develop around 2,000 km of new gas pipelines in western, southern, and eastern Poland over the years 2015-2023. This plan also allows for the construction of new pipeline connections to other EU states (e.g. Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania).

GAZ-SYSTEM is a strategic company for the Polish economy. It is responsible for the transmission of natural gas, manages the most important gas pipelines in Poland and owns the President Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal in Świnoujście.

As part of the 2015-2025 investment programme, GAZ-SYSTEM is constructing over 2000 km of new gas pipelines in the western, southern and eastern parts of Poland. Over a dozen new gas pipelines are under construction within the North-South Gas Corridor and the compressor station in Kędzierzyn Koźle, as well as interconnections with Lithuania and Slovakia. Onshore gas pipelines are planned to connect the planned FSRU floating terminal in the Gulf of Gdansk with the national transmission system. The LNG Terminal in Świnoujście is also being extended, as a result of which the regasification capacity of this facility will be increased by more than a half.

The company is also implementing one of the most important infrastructural projects in the country - the Baltic Pipe project which consists in the construction of a two-way offshore gas pipeline connecting Poland and Denmark, expansion of the local transmission network and three gas compressor stations.
