Development of the Goleniów Gas Compressor Station
The expansion of the Goleniów Gas Compressor Station is directly related to the implementation of the Baltic Pipe Project. The project will include the construction of new pipelines of strategic importance for Poland and the expansion of the existing gas compressor stations. More information about the Baltic Pipe Project can be found at www.baltic-pipe.eu
Description of the Investment
- Capacity of the gas compressor station after expansion: 30 MW, of which 1st stage – 25 MW and 2nd stage – 5 MW
- Under the Baltic Pipe Project, 1 stage – 25 MW is implemented (2 compressors with a capacity of 10 MW and 1 compressor with a capacity of 5 MW)
- location – Goleniów municipality, the West Pomerania voivodeship
Investment schedule
- 1Q 2020 – obtaining a building permit decision
- 3Q 2022 – construction completion date

Investment implementation benefits
The new Goleniów gas compressor station will be responsible for increasing the capacity of the transmission system by pumping increased volumes of gas from the Baltic Pipe offshore pipeline. It will enable increasing Poland’s energy security and will constitute an important element of the North-South Corridor.
Taxes paid annually by GAZ-SYSTEM will be an important benefit for the municipality in which the pumping station will be expanded.
Legal basis
The project is implemented pursuant to the provisions of the Act of 24 April 2009 on investments in the field of re-gasification terminal for liquefied natural gas in Świnoujście, Journal of Laws of 4 June 2009, as amended (“Special Purpose Road Act”) (Article 38 (2) (z)).
Project of Common Interest
In October 2013 and 2015, the European Commission granted the investment the “Project of Common Interest” status.
On 24 November 2017, the European Commission published the third European list of projects in the natural gas sector, including the Baltic Pipe Project, which underlines its regional importance.
For more information on the importance of the PCI status for the development of gas transmission infrastructure, please see tab and the brochure dedicated to PCI projects.
GAZ-SYSTEM implements the investment in compliance with the rights of all stakeholders. We encourage you to comment and ask questions about the construction of the gas compressor station project, which was granted the Project of Common Interest status, using the form.
Location Decision
On 26 June 2019, the Voivode of West Pomerania issued the location decision for the extension of the gas compressor station in Goleniów. This is one of three such components to be implemented on the Polish side under the Baltic Pipe project - the remaining ones will be the extended compressor station in Odolanów and the newly-constructed compressor station in Gustorzyn.
The obtained decision covers implementation of the following investments:
§ extension of the gas compressor station in Goleniów,
§ construction of a pig launcher/receiver along with the necessary infrastructure for the DN 1000 Goleniów - Lwówek gas pipeline,
§ construction of a pig launcher/receiver along with the necessary infrastructure for the DN 1000 gas pipeline between the Płoty Gas Transmission Hub and Goleniów compressor station.
The gas compressor station in Goleniów will have a power capacity of approx. 25 MW and a transmission capacity of over 1.5 million Nm3/h, with a maximum operating pressure of 8.4 MPa.
Administrative decisions
On 28 January 2020, the Voivode of West Pomerania issued the decision approving the design for extension of the gas compressor station in Goleniów. The approved construction permit design assumes implementation of the investment in two stages:
– stage 1 will cover extension of the Goleniów Gas Compressor Station by adding three compressor units with a total power of 25 MW, redevelopment of the technological facilities on the premises of the existing compressor station, construction of new facilities and compressor station infrastructure;
– stage 2 will cover extension by adding a compressor unit with the power of 5 MW.
Construction permit
On 28 January 2020, the Voivode of Wielkopolska issued the construction permit for the investment within the scope of the terminal, consisting in extension of the Goleniów gas compressor station.
