The Poland-Lithuania gas pipeline, southern section will be designed by PANGAZ Sp. z o.o.

On 12 January 2018, GAZ-SYSTEM concluded an agreement with Górnicze Biuro Projektów PANGAZ Sp. z o.o. on developing design documentation for the task “Construction of an interconnection connecting the transmission systems of the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Lithuania together with the infrastructure required for its operation”.

The Contractor will design the pipeline and is obliged to obtain all the necessary permits, consents, opinions, permissions and decisions and to submit complete design documentation with the investor in the 2nd half of 2019. The Company will also ensure architect’s supervision over construction and civil engineering works.

The southern section of the pipeline will be ca. 153 km long and have a diameter of 700 mm. It is located within the territory of Podlaskie and Mazowieckie voivodeships. The route goes through 7 counties and 18 communes.

The creation of the gas pipeline will have a positive impact on the region’s economic growth opportunities, will improve its competitiveness and the quality of life of its population, as it will enable substituting solid fuels with gas fuel and help reduce emissions of harmful substances. The new transmission infrastructure will enable both individual and industrial consumers to receive gas fuel, which can mark the beginning of locating manufacturing centres of different lines of business in the region and creating new jobs.

Particular benefits will be gained by the Podlaskie voivodeship and eastern part of Mazovia, currently characterised by a low gas consumption compared to other regions of the country due to insufficient access to the natural gas supply infrastructure.

This investment project, once completed, will make it possible to:
• develop the transmission system in new areas and improve nationwide technical parameters of the network;
• increase the attractiveness of north-eastern regions of Poland for new investment projects;
• help to make a case for the use of natural gas as low-emission fuel to achieve the environmental and climatic targets set by the European Union.

A significant benefit for the local community will be the property tax paid annually by GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. in the amount of up to 2% of the value of the gas pipeline section located within the commune. This will be a regular income for commune budgets, which can be spent on the needs of local communities.

As part of the 2015-2025 investment programme, GAZ-SYSTEM is constructing over 2000 km of new gas pipelines in the western, southern and eastern parts of Poland. Over a dozen new gas pipelines are under construction within the North-South Gas Corridor and the compressor station in Kędzierzyn Koźle, as well as interconnections with Lithuania and Slovakia. Onshore gas pipelines are planned to connect the planned FSRU floating terminal in the Gulf of Gdansk with the national transmission system. The LNG Terminal in Świnoujście is also being extended, as a result of which the regasification capacity of this facility will be increased by more than a half.

The company is also implementing one of the most important infrastructural projects in the country - the Baltic Pipe project which consists in the construction of a two-way offshore gas pipeline connecting Poland and Denmark, expansion of the local transmission network and three gas compressor stations.
