GAZ-SYSTEM starts the construction of the Tworóg – Kędzierzyn-Koźle pipeline

The construction of the Tworóg – Kędzierzyn-Koźle pipeline was inaugurated on 11 January 2018 by representatives of the entities participating in the project, at a meeting held on the premises of the GAZ-SYSTEM branch office in Świerklany. The meeting followed the signing of the contract for the implementation of the investment project, concluded between GAZ-SYSTEM and IDS-BUD S.A. on 28 December 2017.

IDS-BUD S.A. will be the general building contractor, while site supervision duties will be carried out by SGS Polska Sp. z o.o. Design documentation will be prepared and designer’s supervision will be performed by MGGP S.A.

“The Tworóg – Kędzierzyn-Koźle pipeline is one of the key projects in the plan for the development of the domestic transmission system and together with other connected pipelines it will constitute an element of the western branch of the North-South Gas Corridor. For this reason, we expect that the project will be implemented efficiently and completed on time by all entities involved,” said Piotr Kurzawa, Director of the Investment Project Division of GAZ-SYSTEM.

The participants of the meeting emphasised that they were aware of the strategic importance of the project and expressed their readiness to cooperate with one another in project implementation.

The Tworóg – Kędzierzyn-Koźle pipeline with a length of 43.4 km and a diameter of 1000 mm will be constructed in the territory of the Śląskie and Opolskie Voivodeships in the following communes: Tworóg, Wielowieś, Toszek, Rudziniec and Kędzierzyn-Koźle.

The project will also involve building a gas node in Tworóg. It will include pig launchers and receivers, which will enable cleaning and maintenance of the gas pipelines. The new pipeline will be connected with the following planned pipelines: Tworóg – Tworzeń and Zdzieszowice – Kędzierzyn-Koźle.

The Tworóg – Kędzierzyn-Koźle pipeline is part of the western branch of the North-South Gas Corridor, connecting the LNG terminal in Świnoujście and the designed Baltic Pipe pipeline with the planned Adria LNG terminal in Croatia.
The project has been entered into the catalogue of accompanying investment projects for the liquefied natural gas regasification terminal in Świnoujście. The European Commission granted it the “Project of Common Interest” (PCI) status. The investment project is co-financed by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Programme “Infrastructure and Environment” 2014–2020.

The implementation of the project will increase transmission capacity and make land areas more attractive for new investments in the region, while on the national scale it will contribute to increasing security and diversification of gas supplies to Poland.

An important benefit for the local community will be property tax paid annually by GAZ-SYSTEM in the amount of 2 percent of the value of the gas pipeline section located within each commune.

Completion of the construction process is planned for 2020.

GAZ-SYSTEM plays a strategic role in the Polish economy. We are responsible for natural gas transmission and operate the most important gas pipelines in Poland. As part of the 2015-2025 investment programme, GAZ-SYSTEM plans to build over 2000 km of new gas pipelines in western, southern and eastern parts of Poland. Further development of the national transmission network, including the construction of new gas pipelines making part of the North-South Gas Corridor, as well as the construction of interconnections with the neighbouring countries, will strengthen Poland’s energy security and make an important contribution to the development of the European transmission system.

The Company is implementing one of the most important infrastructural projects in Poland – the Baltic Pipe project, which consists in the construction of a bidirectional offshore gas pipeline connecting Poland and Denmark and the expansion of the local transmission network.

GAZ-SYSTEM also owns Polskie LNG, the operator of the President Lech Kaczyński's LNG Terminal in Świnoujście.
