Description of the investment
The aim of the project is the construction of a new cross-border gas pipeline, which will connect the natural gas transmission systems of Poland and Lithuania. The Parties to the project are GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and Amber Grid AB(previously Lietuvos Dujos) – the Lithuanian transmission system operator. The project is presently on the pre-investment stage.

Investment cost including works subject to funding
- estimated value of the investment (studies): 0.85 MM EUR
- co-financing from TEN-E (for both Parties): 0.42 MM EUR
The European Commission has awarded for the "Preparation: of the Description for the economic viability and feasibility study for the Poland–Lithuania gas interconnector” with 212,500 EUR for each Company (GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and Lietuvos Dujos) which constitutes 50% of the total estimated outlays for the actions undertaken to conduct the analysis and feasibility study.
In December Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. together with AB Lietuvos Dujos completed work related to the economic analysis of a gas connector between Poland and Lithuania. The document was prepared by Ernst & Young Business Advisory LLC & PLP on the basis of its trilateral agreement with AB Lietuvos Dujos and GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.
In May 2013, the work over GIPL Feasibility Study was completed. The document was prepared by ILF Consulting Engineers Polska Sp. z o.o. in cooperation with the consultancy company, Ernst & Young.
Project of Common Interest
In October 2013, the European Commission granted the status of the Project of Common Interest to the project. More information about the meaning of PCI status for the development of the gas transmission infrastructure is presented here and in the brochure on PCI projects. Subject to meeting additional requirments, the project might also be eligible for the EU funding under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which will apply under the European Union financial perspective 2014-2020.
