GAZ-SYSTEM representative elected to the Gas Infrastructure Europe Board

Piotr Kuś, Deputy Director of the Gas Market Development Division at GAZ-SYSTEM, was nominated to the Management Board of the Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) for a two-year term staring on 1 January 2019. 

Representative of GAZ-SYSTEM, for the first time became a member of the GIE Management Board, thus allowing the company to have a greater influence on shaping the agenda and direction of the association's activities during next years. The starting term of office of the Management Board will be of a crucial importance considering the European Commission plans for 2019 and 2020 on the preparation of the new gas market law in the UE.

Piotr Kuś was nominated to the Management Board of the GIE along with the other 11 representatives of the gas infrastructure operators in the European Union. The new Management Board was elected in December 2018 by the General Assembly of the GIE.

Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) is an association representing the sole interest of the infrastructure operators in the natural gas business comprising Transmission System Operators, Storage System Operators and LNG Terminal Operators. GIE has currently 68 members in 25 European countries. GAZ-SYSTEM is a member of the GIE since its establishment in 2005.

GIE voices in Brussels the views of its members vis-à-vis the European institutions, regulators and other stakeholders. GAZ-SYSTEM plays a strategic role in the Polish economy. We are responsible for natural gas transmission and operate the most important gas pipelines in Poland. As part of the 2015-2025 investment programme, GAZ-SYSTEM plans to build over 2000 km of new gas pipelines in western, southern and eastern parts of Poland. Further development of the national transmission network, including the construction of new gas pipelines making part of the North-South Gas Corridor, as well as the construction of interconnections with the neighbouring countries, will strengthen Poland’s energy security and make an important contribution to the development of the European transmission system.

The Company is implementing one of the most important infrastructural projects in Poland – the Baltic Pipe project, which consists in the construction of a bidirectional offshore gas pipeline connecting Poland and Denmark and the expansion of the local transmission network.

GAZ-SYSTEM also owns Polskie LNG, the operator of the President Lech Kaczyński's LNG Terminal in Świnoujście.
