Vice-President Artur Zawartko attended the 590 Kongres

- To guarantee its energy security, Poland must have access to various sources of raw materials. For this reason, GAZ-SYSTEM’s priority is to build a gas pipeline, which will transmit the gas sourced from deposits in Norway, and to expand the President Lech Kaczyński’s Terminal. It is also necessary to build cross-system connections with the adjacent countries and to reasonably extend the national transmission network – said Artur Zawartko, the Vice-President of the GAZ-SYSTEM’s Board during this year’s 590 Kongres. The Vice-President Zawartko attended the first day of the Congress, which was held on 15th and 16th November in Jasionka near Rzeszów.

One of the panels was dedicated to the topic of energy – “Country’s raw material policy: diagnosis, shifting the approach, perspectives”, in which the Vice-President Zawartko participated. Panelists discussed, inter alia, the ways leading to achieving the objectives of the Poland’s raw policy. Execution of the policy is aimed at reasonable management of the raw material resources and setting directions for investments in this field. – By completion of the tasks included in the investment plan, GAZ-SYSTEM will contribute to diversification of the gas supply sources, provision of gas supplies at competitive prices and development of the natural gas market in the region of the Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic Sea – said Artur Zawartko.

The issue of reconciliation of the investment needs with the public interests, possibilities to work out common investment rules between the business, the country, the local governments and the public was discussed by the Congress’ participants in the panel “Can Poland be a second Bavaria? Investors versus local community – how to find a compromise”. During discussion, the Vice-President Zawartko pointed out that GAZ-SYSTEM strictly cooperates with the local governments and residents of the territories on which the company’s projects are carried out.

- Our transmission gas pipelines cross 790 communes in Poland. Each year we contribute to the communes’ budgets a property tax in the amount up to 2% of the value of the infrastructure located within their territory. In 2017, the value of the tax paid to the communes by GAZ-SYSTEM exceeded PLN 150 million. In the last five years, that has come to more than PLN 600 million. Communes can allocate these funds to the goals that are important for the local community – noted Artur Zawartko. He added that the company has also been carrying out other projects, such as Fundusz Naturalnej Energii and Fundusz Inicjatyw Lokalnych. These programmes provide the local communities with the opportunities to implement their ideas.

He also stated that GAZ-SYSTEM puts great emphasis on providing comprehensive information to the local communities on the investments that are carried out, inter alia, through meetings and consultations with residents and engagement in educations activities.

GAZ-SYSTEM plays a strategic role in the Polish economy. We are responsible for natural gas transmission and operate the most important gas pipelines in Poland. As part of the 2015-2025 investment programme, GAZ-SYSTEM plans to build over 2000 km of new gas pipelines in western, southern and eastern parts of Poland. Further development of the national transmission network, including the construction of new gas pipelines making part of the North-South Gas Corridor, as well as the construction of interconnections with the neighbouring countries, will strengthen Poland’s energy security and make an important contribution to the development of the European transmission system.

The Company is implementing one of the most important infrastructural projects in Poland – the Baltic Pipe project, which consists in the construction of a bidirectional offshore gas pipeline connecting Poland and Denmark and the expansion of the local transmission network.

GAZ-SYSTEM also owns Polskie LNG, the operator of the President Lech Kaczyński's LNG Terminal in Świnoujście.
