Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. operates a Local Issuing Office which assigns EIC codes to entities operating on the Polish gas market, to entry and exit points which are not interconnectors, market areas, resource objects and locations.
EIC (Energy Identification Coding scheme) codes are used on the European electricity and gas market to identify entities, entry points or exit points, market areas, resource objects and locations in electronic information interchange.
EIC codes are awarded by the Central Issuing Office, that is ENTSO-E, in cooperation with the Local Issuing Offices operating in the individual countries.
Another Local Issuing Office operating in Poland is managed by the electricity transmission system operator Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A. It assigns codes on the electricity market (contact: www.pse.pl, BiuroKodowEIC@pse.pl).
EIC Code Structure
The EIC code consists of 16 characters. The first two characters specify the issuing office. The issuing office operated by GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. has the identification number 53. The third character identifies the type of code (the type of structure to which the code applies).
The Energy Identification Coding scheme (EIC) issued by Local Issuing Office maintained by GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.
In the case of market players, these are codes of the X type. These codes are assigned to entities with an active VAT number. One entity (one organization) can only be assigned one X type EIC code. The code assigned to a given entity by any Issuing Office (Central or Local) is valid and may be used to identify the entity in electronic information interchange within the international electricity and gas market.
Central Issuing Office
The Central Issuing Office (CIO) is operated by ENTSO-E.
ENTSO-E posts all active international EIC codes in its website.
