Transport of gas through Poland-Czech pipeline possible from september 2011

Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A., together with the Czech company NET4GAS, has completed the project to build a new interconnector between Poland and the Czech Republic. The new interconnector will allow for gas supplies from the new entry point to the Polish system (Cieszyn) with an initial capacity of approx. 0.5 billion m3/year.

Parameters of the pipeline on the Polish side:

• Diameter DN 500 mm
• Pressure P= 6.3 MPa
• Length L= approx. 22 km

Parameters of the pipeline on the Czech side:

• Diameter DN 500 mm
• Pressure P= 6.3 MPa
• Length L= approx. 9.5 km

The connection was initially scheduled to be launched on 1 October 2011, but thanks to earlier-than-planned completion on the Polish side (the  use permit granted for the metering station in Cieszyn) and on the Czech side (technical and acceptance procedures for the pipeline), natural gas can start flowing from the Czech Republic to Poland already in September 2011. The capacity on the entry point to the Polish transmission system has been allocated in 2009 under the Open Season procedure.  At that time, gas transmission contracts were concluded with three companies which participated in the procedure: Polish Oil and Gas Company (Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA), Handen Sp. z o.o. and KRI S.A.
